San Andrés pupils obtain 2nd Place in the Latin American "Banks in Action" competition
Francisco Herrera Rose, Augusto Cama Olivares y Omar Dávila Díaz, from our 5th Year, represented Perú in the Latin American "Banks in Action" competition, which took place from the 17th toh the 20th November in the Marriott Hotel in Lima. They were up against delegations from 16 countries and came in 2nd place. This competition, organised by Citibank Perú and Junior Achievement Worldwide Perú, is aimed at measuring the pupil´s knowledge of the "Banks in Action" programme in the different countries of the region. 

   Winner of Literature Contest

Congratulations to Pamela Gerónimo from 5th Year, for having achieved 1st place in the Literature Contest, organised by the Peruvian Olympic Committee. She presented an essay called "One´s own excellence" where she highlighted that excellence is not prefection but perseverence in growing and being better every day.

Greeting for Mother’s Day

 

● F.C.E. Certification (First Certificate in English)

On Monday, 6th of April, our 5th Year pupils who sat the FCE from the University of Cambridge’s ESOL examinations in December last year received their certificates. They were in 4th Year last year, and are part of a larger group of 23, including members of the 2008 Leavers who achieved this level. They are now preparing themselves for the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE). Congratulations on your achievement.

Naming of Monitors in Primary

On Friday, 3rd of April, the naming of the Monitors took place Turing the Primary Assembly. Their task is to collaborate with controlling discipline in Primary. Both the Headmaster Clive Bailey and the Deputy Headmistress Dora Quiroz presided over the ceremony.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Social Work to the Children of Pachacútec

Our school, through the Department of Christian Mission took donations to a Group of 120 children in Ciudadela Pachacútec, a shanty town to the north of Lima. Thanks to the generosity of the pupils from all parts of the school, we were able to hand out over two thousand school necessities like copybooks, pens, pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners. We also handed out donation that had not been given out last year, like clothes and uniforms for girls. Finally, we also gave out the voluntary donation made by Secondary pupils Turing an Assembly to the tune of PEN 156.60 and USD 1. In this way, our pupils form an active part of giving to those in need.

1st Parents Involvement Evening 2009

Our 1st Parents Involvement Evening took place on Friday, 2oth of March, where over 150 parents took part in the discussion on: "Relationships between Parents and Children". Games and group discussion helped our parents know each other more and they all participated will great enthusiasm in the activities. The Department of Christian Mission invited Pastor Luis Wong as the keynote speaker. We thanks both parents and teachers for their participation in the event, and hope to see you all in the 2nd one later on.

As every year, pupils in 4th and 5th Year campaigned hard to win over voters in their respective Houses. After the contest, 4 House Captains and 4 Vice- House Captains were elected for 2009 and sworn in in a special Assembly presided over by our Supervisor of Secondary, Mr. Marc Scarlett on Friday, 13th of March. The new feature this year was that the process was repeated for the first time in Primary with pupils from 5th and 6th Grade running for the posts.

School Year Dedication Service

On Sunday, 8th of March we had our annual School Year Dedication Service, where we were graced with the presence of our Old Boy Pedro Arana Quiroz who preached on Psalm 87. The Word of God has a privileged spot in the life of all at San Andrés, and it was only right that we start the year asking for God’s blessing on it. Many parents, pupils and friends of our beloved school attended, sharing in a time of reflection and friendship.

On Friday, 6th of March, the Headmaster, Mr. Clive Bailey presided over the swearing-in of the Prefects for 2009 in the school Auditorium. They made an honourable oath and then signed the Prefects book, as a record in the school archive of their achievement. The ceremony finished with a prayer asking for God’s blessing on each of them, in their carrying-out of their responsibilities.
